Remote structural characterization of thousands of buildings from San Jose, Costa Rica

The present work shows the implementation of a data collection strategy for characterizing large amounts buildings efficiently by conduction remote surveys on 360° panoramic images and aerial photographs. A set 7,296 from Latin American city San José, Costa Rica were studied characterized structural engineering point view, obtaining information like occupancy type, height, type lateral load resisting system, irregularities, among others. Also, an estimation error was performed, contrasting its results with ones field ( in situ ) applied subset 556 structures denominated “control buildings.” show that José buildings, predominant material system are, respectively, residential, one or two storey, wall confined-reinforced masonry. overall precision level estimated 75 %, which authors consider acceptable improvement when compared to more popular surveys, example, carried out during population housing census typically have 50 %. proved adopted be promising one, albeit subject improvements increase reduce time.
